Saint-Petersburg is one
of the most beautiful cities of the world. It is often called
the Venice of the North, North Palmyra, City of White Nights.
But none of these names can fully express the glorious enchantment,
inimitable elegance and unique charm and originality of Saint-Petersburg.
The perfection of architectural ensembles, the variety of the
lay-out of parks and gardens wonderfully harmonize with the
lacelike layout of rivers and canals. Founded by Russian Tsar
Peter the Great as a «window to Europe» 300 years ago, the
city has become one of the largest industrial, scientific and
cultural centres of Russia.
During the Northern War tsar Peter the Great regained the lands
near Neva River, and on the 27th of May 1703 he founded a fortress
and a city next to it, which was named after Saint Apostle Peter.
And it took this new city, which was built according to a single
draft, only 10 years to grow into a glamorous capital of Russia
– Saint-Petersburg. For 200 years, beginning from 1712, Saint-Petersburg
was the capital of the Russian Empire.
Fyodor Dostoyevsky, a famous Russian writer, said:”Beauty will
save the world”. Saint-Petersburg is the beauty itself, and if
you doubt this – come and see with your own eyes.
